Yukihito Ishizaka
Department of Tropical Medicine and Malaria We aim to contribute to the promotion of global health in the context of tropical medicine and malariology.
Department of Infectious Diseases The Center conducts research and development of pioneering diagnostic, prophylactic and therapeutic methods for emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, including SARS, tuberculosis and cholera, and other important global infectious diseases.
Department of Intractable Diseases It consists of two laboratories: the Laboratory for Intractable Diseases studies infectious diseases such as HIV-1 and SARS, while the Laboratory for Clinical Immunology studies the role of NK cells in disease pathogenesis.
Department of Gene Diagnostics and Therapeutics We aim to develop pioneering diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive methods for diseases (especially lifestyle-related diseases) in which the interaction between genes and the environment plays a major causative role, based on an understanding of their pathophysiological mechanisms.
Department of Regenerative Medicine We aim to establish methods for isolation and culture of stem cells using embryonic and tissue stem cells, as well as methods for inducing differentiation, and to apply them to regenerative medicine as a new cell therapy.
Refractory Viral Infection Our main goal is to analyze the pathological development of refractory viral infections such as HIV-1, hepatitis B virus, and SARS-CoV-2, and to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic methods for such viral infections.
Department of Human Genetics Our goal is to identify the causative genes of human monogenic diseases for which genetic factors have not been identified and to elucidate the mechanisms underlying their pathogenesis.
Department of Lipid Life Science We are attempting to elucidate the functions of various biomembrane phospholipids, and are aiming to establish new methods of disease treatment from the viewpoint of phospholipids.
Department of Virus Structure and Function We are elucidating the structure and function of the virus by structural and biochemical approaches, and providing the information for the development of innovative therapies.

Diabetes Research Center

Department of Molecular Diabetic Medicine Using genetically engineered mouse models and clinical specimens, we are conducting research to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of glucose metabolism homeostasis and its disruption in individuals, with the aim of proposing innovative therapeutic strategies for diabetes mellitus. (In collaboration with external institutions including the Department of Diabetes and Metabolism, The University of Tokyo Hospital)
Department of Molecular Metabolic Regulation The aim of our research is to elucidate the molecular etiology and pathogenesis of obesity-related metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD), and metabolic carcinogenesis using animal and cellular models, and to establish new therapeutic strategies through the identification of drug targets.
Department of Diabetic Complications Using clinical specimens and animal models of the disease, we conduct research aimed at developing new diagnostic and therapeutic methods for diabetes and its complications using comprehensive analytical methods for proteins and peptides.
Diabetes and Metabolism Information Center The Center conducts clinical research on diabetes, promotes medical collaboration based on clinical epidemiology of diabetes, promotes pioneering medicine, provides information and environmental support for regional medical collaboration, and supports training of healthcare professionals.

The Research Center for Hepatitis and Immunology

Department of Liver Diseases We conduct molecular biological analysis on Hepatitis and Hepatocellular carcinoma with the aim of developing new diagnosis and treatment.
Department of Gastroenterology The Center conducts clinical research on diabetes, promotes medical collaboration based on clinical epidemiology of diabetes, promotes pioneering medicine, provides information and environmental support for regional medical collaboration, and supports training of healthcare professionals.
Department of Immune Regulation We aim to analyze the pathogenesis and maintenance mechanisms of autoimmune and allergic diseases and immunodeficiency diseases caused by immune abnormalities, and to apply our findings to control, repair, and prevention.
Department of Immunology and Pathology By elucidating the differentiation and activation mechanisms of immunocompetent cells at the molecular level, we are conducting research aimed at developing new diagnostic and therapeutic methods for various immune-related diseases.
Department of Viral Pathogenesis and Controls We elucidate the pathogenesis associated with viral infections and develop new therapeutic targets and biomarkers. We also conduct R&D using model animals and patient specimens with the goal of translating the findings of our research into clinical applications.
Hepatitis Information Center In addition to disseminating the latest information on hepatitis in various fields, the center consolidates and analyzes information on liver diseases, serves as the secretariat for the Liaison Council among Central Medical Hospitals for Liver Disease Treatment, and sponsors various training sessions.
